Rita Hand is the Nurse Practitioner for Palliative Care Services at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. As part of the palliative care team she provides daily consultation in symptom management, advanced care planning, goals formation and end-of-life care support to patients and families. She is ANCC board certified Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Geriatrics and many years of nursing experience in Critical Care, geriatrics, hospice case management and pain management. She is a board certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse and ELENC (End of Life Nursing Consortium) and POLST (Physician Order for Life Sustaining Treatments) trainer.
Ms. Hand received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health Nursing from California State Dominguez Hills. she completed herMaster of Science Degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. Rita has provided numerous lectures and presentations to staff and community on the importance of advance care planning and end of life concepts. She helped develop the concept of frailty as a nursing diagnosis and a trigger form for palliative care consultations while serving on the Frailty Committee and the End of Life Medical Committee. She is an active member of Cedars Sinai Medical Center Ethics committee.
